HOTWORX, a new 24-hour infrared fitness studio in The Shops at Lincoln Heights, offers yoga, workouts and saunas to burn calories.
Located at 999 E. Basse Road, Suite 158, HOTWORX provides a fusion of heat, isometrics and infrared energy while exercising in a high-temperature environment, using patented individual workout saunas accessible 24/7 to members. Virtual instructors are available.
Having already partnered in another HOTWORX yoga salon in Stone Oak, Julia Grossman and Nerea Claiborne recently debuted this locale.
“What we’re able to offer is an opportunity for people of all fitness levels and all income levels to access the benefits of far infrared heat therapy,” Grossman said.
Founded in Marrero, Louisiana, HOTWORX is the brainchild of Stephen P. Smith, a former arena-football player. There are more than 160 franchises in 27 states, 52 in Texas.
Proponents say infrared therapy provides many benefits, including boosting immunity, improving blood circulation and metabolic function, eliminating harmful toxins and reducing inflammation.
“We’re not offering just a fitness routine. Our goal is fitness plus recovery.” Grossman said.
Individual steam rooms are set to about 120 degrees, but patrons can request up to 135.
“The interior wooden walls of our saunas have a raw finish with no wax or polish, so there is no emitted heated chemical release,” Claiborne said.
In addition to a membership fee, clients purchase a mat and towel from the studio.
“Our mats are custom-made for us. They are all natural, made with coconut and hemp fiber. No chlorine, no plastics and no (volatile organic compounds),” Claiborne said.
Saunas aren’t only for yoga; some contain spinning bikes and elliptical workout machines.
Open 24 hours to members, staffed hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, plus 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
