Schertz sees councilman tapped as mayor

SCHERTZ — Voters elected Councilman Ralph Gutierrez as the new mayor Nov. 5.

He succeeds Michael Carpenter, who is stepping down after 14 years in city public  office.

Gutierrez received more than 50 percent of the vote across Bexar, Guadalupe and Comal counties.

He outlasted former Councilman Carl Douglas and outgoing Councilman Cedric Edwards, whose election filing error led him to run instead as a write-in candidate.

Place 1 Councilman Mark Davis secured another term with more than 70 percent against Eddie Peoples.

Rosemary Scott, a Judson Independent School District teacher, will succeed Gutierrez as the Place 2 council member.

She tallied more than 60 percent against opponent Jeremy Wells.
