Cereal Killer Sweets is more than a bakery to owner Megan Morales, who says everyone, especially members of the LGBTQ community, can feel at home while enjoying decadent desserts.

“They know that we’re here and we’re queer and they feel really comfortable when they come into the shop,” Morales said.

She runs the business with her partner, Jude Morales, whom she married last year. It held a grand opening Nov. 3 at 1031 Patricia Drive.

Intrigued by marshmallow-cereal treats on Instagram, Megan Morales created Cereal Killer Sweets in January as a part of her former venture, Pinks Popcorn.

After Pinks closed in February, Morales began selling fare at various markets and made deliveries, but now wants to focus on the new shop.

“We have the opportunity to have a space that’s our own where we can do what we want, and have those everyday customers again,” Morales said.

Cereal Killer Sweets features several flavors, including the popular Berry Me Alive made with Cap’n Crunch’s Oops!  All Berries, S’Mores 2.0, and Unicorn Swirl, which includes Fruity Pebbles, Belgian white chocolate and Fancy Sprinkles.

“It’s just looking at taking something that everybody loved as a kid and taking it to what would make everybody love as an adult,” Morales said.

Marshmallow Bliss, similar to the original Rice Krispies Treats, is Morales’ favorite.

Other desserts include cookies, brownies, Kouign-Amann cakes and whatever else Morales is in the mood to bake that day.

All of the goodies are made in small batches and customers are welcome to request special orders.

Cereal Killer Sweets donates a portion of its sales to nonprofits each month.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and closed Sunday and Monday.
