The childhood friendship of The Baked Bear’s owners is a bond that goes together just like the frozen dairy and cookies sold at their ice-cream sandwich shop.

The eatery opened July 12 at 15900 La Cantera Parkway, Suite 26140, in The Shops at La Cantera.

“Everything is baked on-site and then we pair it with our ice cream, which we make as well,” said Shane Stanger, who is co-owner with Rob Robbins.

“We look to places where a lot of the locals tell us to go to, and this is the one a lot of locals were suggesting. We’ll listen to the people,” Stanger said.

Nationally, there are more than two-dozen locations; others debut in Dallas and Florida by year’s end.

The Baked Bear gets it name from baking the cookies for sandwiches and cold-friendly polar bears.

“I mean, everyone loves cookies, and everyone loves ice cream,” Stanger said. “At the core it’s just two simple things that have been around forever.”

The duo started the business six years ago in San Diego, California.

Offerings include ice-cream sandwiches and scoops, cookies, sundaes and brownies.

On call is a double-digit assortment of ice-cream flavors, cookie styles and toppings.

“A lot of people come here for our ice-cream sandwiches, but our ice cream is really good,” Stanger said. “We put a lot of time into making sure our flavors are fun and different, and that the quality is as high as you can get.”

Hours are noon to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, noon to 11 p.m. Friday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday.
