FAIR OAKS RANCH — Folks wanting to beat the heat can cool off with frozen treats at Parker’s Ice Creams, a family-run shop also offering some alcohol-infused flavors.
Owned by Richard and Andrea Thorp, their daughter, Stephanie, and her husband Kevin Koether, the ice-cream parlor opened May 4 at 8000 Fair Oaks Parkway, Suite 2114.
“We wanted it to be a place where people could come and hang out … on the patio and enjoy the sunset,” Stephanie Thorp said.
The business is named after Parker Koether, her 3-year-old girl.
“We are literally in the middle of this community. And, we’re all from here, right? So this is our community,” Andrea Thorp said.
The store features 16 gourmet flavors; four contain alcohol.
Each is made on-site using quality ingredients and all-natural colorings, such as beets for red and spinach for green, the family said.
Cookie Monster, the most popular item, is a blue-vanilla ice cream dyed with spirulina — blue-green algae — and packed with crushed Chips Ahoy and Oreos.
“It’s really like the best cookies and ice cream you’ve ever had,” Richard Thorp said.
Other flavors include mocha chip, cereal milk, lemon ice and boozy birthday cake, plus staples such as vanilla and strawberry.
Parker’s also serves wine, beer, whiskey and Scotch whisky for adult imbibers.
“We really wanted to make sure we balanced it, to make it where it was very kid-friendly and inviting,” Andrea Thorp said. “Yet, still when we transition more to evening and people want to come out and find a nice place to sit, (they would) be comfortable as well.”
Hours are 1-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 1-11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, and 1 – 8 p.m. Sunday.
