CONVERSE — The new Bella on the Vine is a multipurpose event center ripe to bring the Italian pastime of bocce ball to San Antonio.
“Bocce is something my dad has always been drawn to,” said Jennie Besfer, who co-owns the business with her family. “It’s relaxing and you can make it competitive, but you can also sit around and have a drink.”
Similar to curling, bocce is where two teams aim to land their set of balls closest to the pallino, or target.
Bella on the Vine is at 8607 FM 1976, Building 2, adjacent to Papa Dante’s, a restaurant Besfer’s father, John Dante, opened in 1979.
The facility is divided into three wings. One is a banquet hall for weddings, quinceañeras, company parties and more. The space also has indoor bocce-ball courts.
A second is a tavern serving drinks and food. Selections include wines, craft cocktails and pulled-pork sandwiches.
“Our wine wall currently has at least 500 different types of vintages for a very good value. In the future, we plan on having flights of wine and beer as well,” Besfer added.
A patio area under construction will feature a deck for live music, an outdoor bocce-ball court, and other games such as cornhole.
Pub times are 3-9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with happy hour from 4-6 p.m.
