The proprietor of a new far North Side eatery says he’s putting the culinary spotlight on tacos.
Taco Blvd, 18360 Blanco Road, Suite 116 in the Blanco Market shopping center, debuted last fall.
“The reason why we chose Stone Oak to open our restaurant is because there was no market for tacos,” said owner Rafael Reyes. “There are a lot of Tex-Mex restaurants in San Antonio, but they focus on too many dishes.”
Reyes’ upbringing in the Rio Grande Valley and northern Mexico inspired both his style of cooking and taqueria decor.
“Everything we make from the recipes, salsa and the tortillas, are all family recipes and we do everything homemade,” Reyes said.
Taco Blvd is decorated in a Dia de los Muertos motif. Skulls fashioned like celebrities adorn its walls.
The menu is simple and “straight to the point” with tacos, taquitos and volcanes, which are made with toasted tortillas, the owner said.
“Tacos are cheap and delicious, and can be a healthy option for people’s diet,” added Reyes.
The entrepreneur hopes to change the local taco landscape by sticking to his traditional taqueria roots, he said.
Favorites include al pastor-marinated pork and barbacoa washed down with Mexican sodas, including several flavors of Jarritos.
Discounts are offered to military and law enforcement.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10-4 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
