HOLLYWOOD PARK — A new watering hole aims to be best friend to both man and beast.
Joanne Lenfield and her mom in March opened The Dog House Bar & Grill, touted as a spot where owners can bring their dogs while they get a drink and sink their teeth into good food.
Lenfield said the bar’s name is a play on words and is Inspired by a love of dogs.
“Whenever you’re in the dog house, this is where you come,” Lenfield said.
The Dog House is at 16111 U.S. 281 North in the Galleria Oaks shopping center. Its motto is, “Come, sit, stay.”
Originally the daughter-mother duo wanted to open a taco truck, but their idea grew into something more.
Much of Lenfield’s family is active or retired military, so The Dog House is big on catering to those with ties to the armed forces.
Lenfield is also part of a motorcycle organization that counts veterans as members.
“This is their place, too,” said Lenfield, citing all the stories and memories service members have shared.
Military nights are held the last Saturday of each month.
The menu features hot dogs, sliders, street tacos, nachos and more. According to Lenfield, two of the most popular items are the chicken-fried chicken sliders topped with mashed potatoes and smothered in gravy, and loaded nachos.
The bar also has a variety of liquor and craft beer, with a large selection of suds brewed in Texas.
“Our bar staff is amazing as far as explaining everything and showing them (customers) new drinks,” said Lenfield.
The Dog House offers happy hour from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, live music on the weekends, barbecue on the patio every other week, and “Sunday Funday” with specials offered all day.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday and Monday, and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
