Frank & Teressa’s Anchor Bar, home of the Buffalo wing since 1964, debuted in The Ridge shopping center in early July.

Franchise owner Joe Snyder said he opened the eatery because he wanted some delicious wings. The watering hole is known for its recipe, deep-fried and slathered in a secret sauce.

“I like chicken wings, so I kind of looked around at different concepts. I went up (to Buffalo, New York, home of the wings) and visited and I just fell in love with it,” Snyder said.

Frank & Teressa’s Anchor Bar at 4553 N. Loop 1604 West, Suite 1133, is in the spot that recently housed Big Bob’s Burgers.

According to the Anchor Bar website, on March 4, 1964, Teressa Bellissimo first created the now-famous winged concoction for her bartending son’s hungry friends.

The dish comes in several sauces and rubs, from original Buffalo served mild, medium or hot, to spicy barbecue, honey garlic, habanero ranch and others.

“It’s often duplicated but never actually repeated. It’s just the technique and the way we cook them,” Snyder said. “They are the largest wings available and we have our original sauce that they have been serving for 50 years now and it’s pretty good stuff.”

The restaurant also offers burgers, wraps, salads and pizza.

“It’s a pretty well-rounded menu … better food than your typical sports bar and something that families can enjoy,” Snyder said.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
