Although The Rustic is relatively new, the restaurant, bar and venue for loads of live music has attracted the attention of the “King of Country” himself, George Strait.

The longtime Dominion resident and Country Music Association entertainer of the year helped cement its reputation as a trendy hot spot with a recent visit to 17619 La Cantera Parkway, Suite 204 in The Rim.

Co-owner Kyle Noonan got the idea for The Rustic while drinking beer on a ranch with his business partner Josh Sepkowitz and some friends, telling stories by the fire and listening to his buddy play the guitar.

“It’s a place you can go sit under the stars, enjoy those that you’re with, and it just feels like home,” Noonan said.

In late September, the owners threw a VIP grand opening with country musician and The Rustic partner Pat Green providing free tunes. This is the second location; the original is in Dallas, with a third coming to Houston.

Noonan and Sepkowitz are also the creative minds behind The General Public and Bowl & Barrel, which are next door under the name FreeRange Concepts.

The Rustic features local ranchers’ meats, area farmers’ dairy and produce, plus Gulf of Mexico seafood.

Besides lunch and dinner, there’s a Jam and Toast Brunch and Sunday Supper, both served family style.

More than 40 beers — 35 from local craft brewers — are on tap, alongside wine and spirits.

Popular dishes include The Rustic Burger, topped with house brisket, white cheddar, green chili and grilled onions, and peanut butter pie.

Someone is always performing, whether it’s a country, rock or pop artist. Upcoming shows include Robert Ellis (Dec. 8), Shakey Graves (Dec. 9) and Bryce Merritt (Dec. 14, 31).

Military and first responders receive discounts.

Hours are 11 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday, 11-2 a.m. Friday, 10-2 a.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to midnight Sunday.
