BOERNE — Eight artists have collaborated to open a display venue named after its address — Gallery One9Five of Boerne.

Located at 195 S. Main St., the owners say it’s a great place to appreciate art.

“Each one of us, in our own way, is unique. We’re all retired. We’re all local,” said encaustic, or hot-wax, painter Sharon Whisnand.

Hot-wax artwork applies heated beeswax with colored pigments to a surface, often wood, though canvas and other materials can be employed.

Another gallery owner, photographer Jim Heupel, features some of his pictures from Africa, Antarctica and other global vistas.

Every second Saturday of the month, Gallery One9Five participates in the city’s monthly Art Walk, and its proprietors answer visitors’ questions.

“I hope people come here because they want to see unusual art. We’re trying to make it a destination point,” Whisnand said. “We are hoping Boerne could become a go-to place for art galleries.”

Each month, the studio displays a guest artist’s work.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The gallery has its own YouTube channel.
