Eric Cuellar’s move from Houston back to his hometown, San Antonio, took him on an out-of-this-world journey to launch a space-themed miniature golf course.

Joined by his wife and three kids, Cuellar has debuted Cosmic Mayhem: Black Light Mini Golf at 903 E. Bitters Road, Suite 310.

Cuellar, who served with the Navy SEALs, opened the venue in early June. Characterized by a science-fiction vibe, the 18 holes bathed in black lightrange in themes from astronauts to alien vessels.

“I was a Navy SEAL for 14 years and got out, and wanted to do something with the family,” said Cuellar, who also lived in San Diego. “Got three kids, so (I) figured this was a good thing to do. Minigolf has been around for a while. It’s kind of tested, as far its stability, and so we decided to go with this.”

Cuellar wanted to do “something indoors” for children, while also creating a climate-controlled environment where patrons could have fun and get away from cold or hot weather.

The course is open for private birthday parties for youngsters under 13 and adults as well. The facility is wheelchair accessible. Military, law-enforcement personnel, firefighters, other first responders and teachers get in for a discounted price.

Hours are 2-9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 2-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2-9 p.m. Sunday.
