The drive to transform a food-truck business into a brick-and-mortar restaurant led Benjamin ‘Benjie’ De Los Santos to open Benjie’s Munch, which serves craft beer, sandwiches, sodas and some vegetarian options.

“I’ve always wanted to do a restaurant. That was the goal,” said De Los Santos, who operated his wheeled Benjie’s Munch Truck for more than two years.

Benjie’s Munch, 1218 W. Bitters Road, Suite 107, held an Oct. 16 soft opening. De Los Santos said the menu offers homemade products made from scratch.

Selections include crispy chicken sandwiches, spinach artichoke grilled cheese, chicken on a stick and veggie burgers. He uses a variety of house-made breads, as well as gluten-free varieties and buns.

Benjie’s Munch also offers cilantro ranch dressing with the meals.

The plethora of dishes grew from his travels across the country, visiting Pittsburgh, Iowa and Chicago, De Los Santos said.

His experiences meeting new people and trying new foods gave him a few ideas of his own.

“Our food has a little bit of the country.”

The new restaurant aims for an Austin-style atmosphere, with entertainment provided by old rhythm and blues and rap music, he said.

The aim is to make customers feel relaxed while enjoying their meals, De Los Santos said.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and closed on Sundays.
