The folks at Crossroad Bikes want to make it easier for patrons to locate and  purchase their favorite ride.

Co-owner Brian Mikiten said it can often be a struggle finding the right bike in San Antonio; he wants to make the process go smoothly.

When he was younger and searching for a bicycle, he encountered aggressive sales tactics from shops trying to pressure him into buying one that didn’t fit, according to an online biography.

“It’s like buying a pair of shoes before even trying them on,” said Mikiten, who runs Crossroad Bike with his wife, Joan. “It’s the most ridiculous thing in the world.”

The shop, 14510 N.W. Military Highway, Suite 108, opened its doors June 30.

Billed as “San Antonio’s new, friendly bike shop,” it could be the first of many stores to come.

Displayed in the shop are all kinds of bicycles, everything from road-ready models to mountain bikes. The couple also want to keep riders safe by selling every bike with a helmet.

The bike shop offers both in-store and mobile service.

“We’ll deliver bikes that people buy online. When they buy the bikes from big brands, they’re sent here,” Brian Mikiten said. “We actually assemble them. We take care of that so customers aren’t concerned with doing it themselves.”

Community involvement is very important to the Mikitens.

They help with charity rides and offer free bike maintenance for YMCA members.

They also hold no-charge bike lessons at the Leon Creek Greenway Valero Park Trailhead.
