Staffers at Natural Grocers say they take pride in educating the community about nutrition and giving consumers healthier options for their tables.

The second San Antonio store offering organic food and vitamins opened last spring at 6514 N. New Braunfels Ave.

The chain relies on five founding principles to guide employees, with educating customers about nutrition being the first, said spokeswoman Krystal Covington.

The others are high-quality products, affordable pricing and commitments to the community and to employees.

“What’s really unique about Natural Grocers is that throughout all of our growth, we’ve maintained our values and continue to take pride in educating and serving our community,” Covington said.

Founded in 1955, the company has since expanded from its humble beginnings in Colorado to 19 states and 140 locations.

Natural Grocers is a specialty retailer that distributes organic and natural groceries as well as dietary and body care supplements.

It also offers free classes on science-based nutrition. The company hopes to convince customers to enjoy a healthier diet.

“Natural Grocers provides 100 percent (U.S. Department of Agriculture)-certified organic produce, 100 percent free-range eggs, 100 percent pasture-based dairy, naturally raised meats and other high-quality food items at always-affordable prices,” Covington said.

Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 8:36 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 7:35 p.m. Sunday.
