SCHERTZ — Frank & Teressa’s Anchor Bar, said to be the home of the original Buffalo wing, opened Sept. 12 in the Randolph Metrocom.

“(We) thought it would be a nice fit to have a nice, neighborhood, family wing bar here,” said franchise owner Joe Snyder.

He launched the eatery in the spot formerly occupied by Fox’s Pizza & Tap Room at 3900 FM 3009, Suite 101.

This is his second Anchor Bar in the San Antonio area. The first debuted in July 2017 at 4553 N. Loop 1604 West, Suite 1133 in San Antonio.

“I’m a wing lover, so I wanted to go with the best. I traveled the country and tried several different ones, and I fell in love with Anchor Bar,” Snyder said.

According to a corporate website, Teressa Bellissimo first created the now-famous Buffalo chicken wing on March 4, 1964, when friends of her son, a bartender, showed up hungry.

The menu features burgers, wraps, sandwiches, pizza and made-to-order macaroni and cheese with extras such as chicken and bacon.

Anchor Bar is known for its traditional bone-in and boneless wings, with nearly two dozen sauces and rubs, including the original Buffalo sauce in mild, medium and hot flavors.

“People try to copy it all the time, but this is the original and still the best,” Snyder said.

A Buffalo wing done correctly has crispy skin outside, is juicy inside and is coated in sauce.

As for libations, several options exist including 16 beers on tap, both craft and domestic, and numerous signature cocktails.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
