A San Antonio Mexican restaurant celebrated since 1978 has debuted a second location near The Dominion.
Where Aldaco’s Mexican Cuisine once stood, La Fogata Comida opened a few months ago at 22211 Interstate 10 West. The original is at 2427 Vance Jackson Road.
Owners Patrick and Cari Breakie Richardson in 2015 purchased the eatery famous for its south-of-the-border eats and margaritas.
General Manager David Dominguez said the new locale is a fun spot with neighborhood-friendly dining.
“When we knew about the opportunity to open here, it just made sense. We already have the customer base,” Dominguez said.
The 15-year La Fogata veteran oversees both sites. Staffers strive for the best service; they’re amicable and very professional, he said.
The latest space is “warm” and “welcoming” with a large patio and bar; a lower level is being built alongside some oak trees and will feature picnic-style tables and a live-music stage.
“Our concept is when you walk through those wooden doors, we make you feel like you’re not in San Antonio. You feel like you’re somewhere in Mexico under the trees,” he said.
The menu features dishes from across Mexico, plus some Tex-Mex favorites. The kitchen staff makes everything from scratch, including handmade corn and flour tortillas.
“Our goal is to have everything fresh. It’s why our food takes a little bit longer. When you place your order, that’s when we start making it,” Dominguez said.
His favorite dish is Tacos Norteños, which includes layers of refried beans, Oaxaca cheese and beef fajita strips topped with cabbage, onions, an avocado slice, and queso fresco on a crisp corn tortilla.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
